The Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives (GCNM) has officially signed a landmark collaboration agreement with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund to support the expansion of specialist nursing training across Ghana.
The agreement, signed on Wednesday, 6th May 2026, at the premises of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund Office in Cantonments, Accra, represents a significant milestone in strengthening Ghana’s healthcare workforce and advancing specialist nursing and midwifery education in line with national priorities.
Representing the College, Mr. Amos Otuah, Vice-Rector of the Mental Health Division, signed the agreement. He was accompanied by some heads of the college, reflecting a strong and unified leadership presence from the College.

The partnership underscores a shared commitment to addressing critical gaps in Ghana’s health system through the training of highly skilled specialist nurses. It is expected to significantly enhance clinical capacity in key priority areas, including critical care, emergency nursing, oncology, endocrinology, nephrology, and cardiovascular nursing.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Otuah highlighted that the collaboration aligns with the College’s mandate to provide advanced specialist education and contribute meaningfully to health system strengthening in Ghana. He emphasised that investing in specialist nursing education is essential to improving patient outcomes and ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare services across the country.

The support from the Ghana Medical Trust Fund is expected to play a pivotal role in scaling up residency and fellowship training programmes at the College, equipping nurses with advanced competencies needed to respond effectively to the increasingly complex healthcare needs of the population.
The Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives remains committed to fostering strategic partnerships that promote excellence in education, research, and clinical practice while contributing to national and global health priorities.
