Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives Appoints First Two Vice-Rectors

The Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives (GCNM) has marked a significant milestone with the appointment of its first two Vice-Rectors. This is the first time the College has created these positions since its inception. Mr. Amos Prince Otuah is the first of the two appointees to assume his responsibilities, having officially joined GCNM on February 3, 2025.

Mr. Otuah brings over two decades of experience in mental health nursing, encompassing both clinical practice and teaching, as well as leadership, to the role. He specialized in the effective management of patients with diverse mental health conditions.

His extensive career includes serving as Deputy Chief Health Tutor (DCHT) at the Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Koforidua. He has also served as a part-time lecturer at the GCNM and as the Faculty Chairperson for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division at GCNM. Earlier in his career, he worked as a Mental Health Nurse at Pantang Psychiatric Hospital. Beyond his core duties, Mr. Otuah has also contributed to the Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Koforidua as Estate Officer and Transport Officer and has consulted on curriculum review and development.

Mr. Otuah’s professional affiliations include membership in the Ghana Registered Nurses & Midwives Association (GRNMA), the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana (N&MC), He is a Fellow of the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives (GCNM), and member, International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professional (IACAPAP).

His educational background includes an MSc in Psychiatric Nursing from Cardiff University, Wales, UK; a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana; a BSc in Nursing from the University of Ghana, Legon, Ghana; and a Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing from Pantang Nurses Training College, Ghana.

The College is confident that Mr. Otuah’s wealth of experience and dedication to mental health nursing will be invaluable assets in his leadership as Vice Rector.
